Our Story - Excerpts from Northforker, 2018, Author: Cyndi Zaweski

Good food brings people together.

That old adage could not be more true for business partners Shasho Pole and Ann Olenick.

The duo bonded over a shared passion for handcrafting foods from fresh ingredients while selling their goods at the Rocky Point Farmers Market nearly 10 years ago.

Soon after, Pole, owner of Naturally Grass Fed, and Ann Olenick, owner of Something Sweet Dessert Shoppe, teamed up to jointly bring their products to farmers markets across the Long Island — and now they invite you to their brick-and-mortar farm-to-table restaurant, Broadway Market, adjacent to the Rocky Point Farmers Market where it all began.

“We looked and looked to find the right spot,” Pole said. “We just could not believe the pieces fell into place and we ended up here.”

Broadway Market opened in Rocky Point in 2018. The 2,500-square-foot space has been transformed into a modern farmhouse chic restaurant that boasts a diverse menu of flatbreads, grass-fed beef burgers sourced from Pole’s certified organic upstate farm and brunch items like Lincoln Log French toast.

“It has been a dream … everyday I still cannot believe it looks like the renderings,” Olenick said. “To see it all come to life is pretty amazing.”

The restaurant is a multifaceted operation with a boutique bakery counter that serves up Olenick’s signature treats as well as a grab-and-go case with ready-made sandwiches and dinner sized "Market Meals" ready to go.

A spacious 47-seat full-service dining room and bar area occupies the area next to the bakery counter. Broadway is big on brunch, serving up everyone’s favorite 4 days a week. The two most popular brunch dishes (so far) are the fried chicken sandwich served on a house-made bun and the bacon egg and cheese calzone -  and the Counter Culture brand is not to be missed.

The majority of the menu is sourced from purveyors in New York State, including locally from Braun’s Seafood Co. in Cutchogue and Bakewicz Farms in Wading River. Even the beer list is Long Island-centric. Greenport Brewing Co., Fire Island Brewing Co., Oyster Bay Brewing Co. and Blue Point Brewing Co. can be found on tap alongside other New York beers, North Fork wine and a host of signature craft cocktails.
